Term: | liceo | |
There seems to be differences in opinion between Spanish-German and Spanish-English dictionaries regarding the meaning of 'el liceo'. German books say 'Gymnasium' , which is a school where children are selected by intelligence. In Britain these are called 'grammar schools', but the the Spanish-English dictionaries says that 'liceo' is a 'secondary school' which are schools where those who fail the entrance test for grammar schools go. In fact, in all but a few cases grammar and secondary schools have been merged into 'comprehensive schools' because the Left in Britain considered grammar schools to be elitist. | ||
