Qué tal debe de irles a Daisy y a Pip?

How are Daisy and Pip doing?     But I'm not sure of the role played by 'deber' , meaning 'must' in English. It may be just a Spanish  idiom, not directly translatable.

YOU TRANSLATED:   Qué tal debe de irles a Daisy y a Pip?

YOU SAID:                  But I'm not sure of the role played by 'deber' ,
                                         meaning 'must' in English.
It may be just a Spanish idiom, not directly translatable.

RESPONSE

IT IS WRITTEN:          ¿Qué será (de la vida) de Márgara y Pipe?

IT MEANS:                  How's (the life of) Daisy and Pip going?
How're (the lives of) Daisy and Pip going?

TAKEN FROM:             How are Daisy and Pip doing?

EXPLANATION:           Deisy is the anglicism of Daisy which is the nickname for Margaret
Pip is the anglicism of Pip which is the nickname for Philip

¿Qué tal debe (de) irles a...? or ¿Qué tal estarán...? It is bad syntax.

You can also SAY:         ¿Cómo le (debe de) estar yendo a...?
MEANS:   How are (they doing) Daisy and Pip?

The words between parenthesis can be omitted.
The verb deber can be translated or omitted depending of the context
